Chef:  Kendra Peterson

Kendra has always had an elusive love affair with food. At the age of two, she recalls waiting until her mother's back was turned just to steal a bright pink shrimp off her plate. After that, her memories return largely to helping her mother in the kitchen, whether it was baking pistachio pudding cakes or clarifying butter for steamed lobster. From a very young age her mother taught her the importance of good food and entertaining.

As years passed, Kendra matured to more detailed and intricate recipes and techniques. As her desire to explore the culinary world expanded, she started catering for her high school's events and older sister's dinner parties. College brought her a degree in Food Science and Nutrition, but she still pondered over how to marry her developed skills in culinary technique and flavor with her desire to create healthy and nutritious food.

Shortly after college, while working at Williams-Sonoma part-time, Kendra developed a side business as a private chef that tailored to busy moms interested in providing organic and healthy options for their families. It was at this time that Kendra realized she had finally returned to her roots and channeled her true calling, as an organic chef. And here began a gratifying career that started simply with the love of food.

It did not take long before others took notice of this valuable, yet unique, service that Kendra was providing. During this period, she was working full time for a handful of clients and thus, Drizzle Kitchen was officially born! At Drizzle Kitchen, her services include private chef services as well as boutique catering, private in-home cooking lessons and cooking parties. On top of this, she continues to assist at the Chopping Block Cooking School and teach healthy and organic cooking classes at Williams-Sonoma locations around Chicago.

There is no doubt that food is in Kendra's heart and soul. This love resonates in her mission statement at Drizzle Kitchen: To help educate people about the importance of organic, local and seasonal food for a healthy lifestyle. Her passion for helping people returns to the idea of eating foods that are pure and whole, but in a fun and light-hearted manner. Meet her once and you will understand. She has a charm and appeal that is contagious, especially when you get her talking about food. She will leave you wondering why you had not tried Greek yogurt or nutritional yeast before you met her!

It is a safe guess that you will find Kendra playing around in a kitchen, but when she is not there you may find her running along the lakeshore path downtown Chicago, studying the latest and greatest in nutrition or enjoying some of Chicago's yummiest restaurants with her friends and family.
